We have heard a lot about things that can happen to your body if you don’t sleep 7 to 8 hours every day. Various diseases like insomnia and Alzheimer are connected to the sleeping habits. Similarly, if you are oversleeping, many devastating things can happen to your body. If you have recently developed the habit of oversleeping, you should be aware of things that can happen to your body. To save your time, we have done the hard part for you. We have rounded up a list of things that can most likely happen to you if you kept the over sleeping habit for very long.

You can get Obese

If you are a long sleeper, this habit can lead to weight gain. With over sleeping habit, you are actually spending most of your time in bed rather than moving or exercising, which results in obesity. According to experts, as you keep gaining weight, you tend to over sleep more than before. It is one of the things that can easily irritate a person because despite of you don’t want to gain weight, it keeps increasing while you are not taking considerable steps to avoid it. To avoid the expansion, you should gain control over you sleep and start exercising.

Serious and continuous Headaches

This condition can be felt both ways, either you don’t sleep well or sleep too much. Waking up groggy and headachy, almost like a hangover, can be cause of over sleeping. Though the mechanism behind it is unclear, but one theory explains that fluctuations in neurotransmitters while sleeping can trigger headaches.

Experts also conclude that it can also happen when people couldn’t sleep in their right routine, which then alters the corresponding events like if you are sleeping early in the morning, past your normal breakfast or coffee time, headaches can be related to caffeine, dehydration and lower blood sugar levels. Rather than spending the right time of sleep in working, you should utilize it to get consistent amount of sleep.

You can have Diabetes

With longer sleeps, risk of diabetes increases as well. According to researchers, after conducting a study it was found that over sleeping can increase the risk by double of developing diabetes. Moreover, other studies concluded that too much or too little sleep can affect blood glucose levels regardless of your weight or activity level. Diabetes can be genetic, but over sleeping can acts as a catalyst to occur sooner than expected.

Once you are affected by diabetes, you have to be very careful with things as even minor mistakes can lead to serious harms. And to avoid such situations, you should work on your sleeping routine. Sleep on time rather than spending night working or surfing the internet and wake up fresh early in the morning. If you can’t sleep on time, perhaps working out at night will help you sleep faster.

It won’t let your Brain work Well

Sleep duration is linked with so many factors related to health. You can always be in trouble if sleep too much or too little. Other than having headaches with over sleeping, you can even experience lagging in your brain. A study conducted at Harvard showed the connection between long sleep and dementia. The study was conducted on older woman who slept more than nine hours had worse cognition, equivalent of gaining almost 2 years.

There are both direct and indirect effects of sleep duration on cognition. Longer sleeps can cause decreased brain function or could even lead to structural changes to the brain and poor cognitive function. If you make over sleeping a habit, you should be ready to accept the changes it will cause to your body.

Risk of Heart Diseases and Strokes Increases

According to national sleep foundation, adults are recommended to sleep seven to nine hours every day; there are cases when body craves for more sleep, which researchers consider can have bad outcomes. One of the deepest concerns of over sleeping is related to cardiovascular diseases. After studying the cases, researches came to the conclusion that people who sleep more than eight hours every night can get affected by angina, which is pain in the chest or coronary heart diseases. If you are a long sleeper, your risk of cardiovascular diseases increases.
